Iran under Queiroz began their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification (AFC) campaign successfully, defeating Maldives 4–0 in the first leg of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification – AFC Second Round in Azadi Stadium. Iran defeated Maldives 1–0 five days later. Iran won 5–0 on aggregate and advanced to the Third Round. Iran had been drawn with Indonesia, Qatar, and Bahrain at the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification – AFC Third Round. Iran defeat Indonesia 3–0 in the first game of third round. Four days later, they drew 1–1 with Qatar away. Iran also beat Bahrain 6–0 at the Azadi Stadium on 11 October 2011. Iran's next match was against Bahrain on 11 November 2011, which they drew 1–1 with a goal from Mojtaba Jabbari. They then played against Indonesia, winning the game 4–1, subsequently advancing to the next stage. Queiroz invited new players like Ashkan Dejagah to the national team. Dejagah scored twice in his debut game against Qatar in a Brazil 2014 World Cup Qualifier which was ended with a 2–2 draw. Iran had been drawn with South Korea, Qatar, Uzbekistan and Lebanon at the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification – AFC Fourth Round. Iran started the Fourth round with an away 1–0 win against Uzbekistan and a 0–0 draw with Qatar in home. Iran lost its third match of the group in World Cup Qualifier against Lebanon 1–0 in Beirut but achieved a win on 17 October, defeating South Korea 1–0 at the Azadi Stadium with a goal from captain Javad Nekounam. After a bad loss in Tehran against Uzbekistan with the result 1-0, Iran defeated Qatar 1-0 in Doha. Iran also defeated Lebanon 4–0 in Azadi. On 18 June 2013, Iran won its final match against South Korea in Ulsan Munsu 1-0 with a goal from Reza Ghoochannejhad who was added to the team by Queiroz, and as a result they qualified to the 2014 FIFA World Cup by topping the group with 16 points.
